In an era when brand loyalty is low and demands are high, it makes sense that customization has taken off. Shoppers can design their own Nike sneakers, Brooks Brothers suits, Burberry trench coats and Longchamp bags.
Global brands are hoping that customization will create a deeper connection for local markets. Plus, given that one-of-a-kind products have lower return rates and can fetch higher prices, it seems like a no-brainer. It’s no wonder the bespoke tailoring and localized customiztions are an eternal success story.
TAG Heuer, in partnership with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, captivated its Dubai audience by exhibiting its exquisitely crafted Muhammad Ali Middle East timepiece. The watch was unveiled in Doha earlier this month at the fourteenth edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, which is regarded the most exclusive in the world for HNWI to view and purchase unique watches, jewellery, diamonds and precious stones. To mark the Dubai debut of the Muhammad Ali Arabic Dial creation, TAG Heuer organized an exhilarating boxing class to celebrate.
Payal New York, custom diamond jewelry tailor based in Dubai and sponsor of Harper's Bazaar's Best Dressed understand the importance of bespoke customization for her clients. In Dubai, where glamour reigns all, Payal specializes in extravagant jewelry for the Dubain socialite.
From cultural adaptations to personal tailoring, customization trends are breaking through the Dubai market.

Dubai, UAE – 18 February 2017: This year the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival celebrate their 15th Year Anniversary by announcing the festival’s largest and remarkable lineup with Sir Tom Jones opening on 22nd February, Mariah Carey on the 23rd February and Enrique Iglesias on the closing night, 24th February. In addition to the headline artists, guests will be treated to performances from a number of supporting acts which include The Rad Trads, Raul Midón and Nathan Sykes who have all proved their musical merit.
Undeniably the biggest Latin recording artist in music history, Enrique Iglesias has sold more than 130 million albums worldwide, released ten studio albums plus two greatest hits compilations, and is a multiplatinum artist in almost every country around the world. Enrique’s illustrious career has earned him 27 #1 singles on the Billboard Latin Songs Chart as well as having multiple #1’s across the Billboard charts with a combined total of 105 #1 charted positions. He holds the record for most weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart with his hit “Bailando” at 42 weeks, and the music video has gained over one billion views on YouTube. Enrique’s 14th #1 Dance Club Song, “Tonight (I’m Loving You),” made him the king of the chart beating out Michael Jackson for the most #1’s in Billboard history.
The best-selling female artist of all time, with more than 220 million records sold and eighteen #1 singles – the most for any solo artist in history – Mariah Carey is a luminous and enduring talent who has enthralled audiences for a quarter-century. Known for her distinct five-octave vocal range, she is equally distinguished as a songwriter, penning all but one of her #1 singles, including “Fantasy,” “Always Be My Baby,” “Hero,” “Touch My Body,” “One Sweet Day” and “We Belong Together,” more than any other solo artist.
Sir Tom Jones
With a successful career that spans over five decades, Sir Tom is a well-loved icon who continues to have a vital recording and performing career to this day. With energetic and irresistible shows that traverse eras and genres, his performances appeal to music fans of all ages. He has sold over 100 million records and although he is well known for hits including “It’s Not Unusual”, “Kiss”, “Delilah”, “What’s New Pussycat”, “Green, Green Grass of Home”, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again”, and “If I Only Knew”, he is first and foremost an artist with true rhythm and blues soul. At the age of 76, he has garnered the best reviews of his career for his most recent albums “Long Lost Suitcase” (recorded in collaboration with producer and multi-instrumentalist, Ethan Johns), “Spirit in The Room” and “Praise & Blame”. Critics across the world are unanimous in their approval and admiration for both the recorded work and the performance of them in concert.
“With a line-up that features such heavyweights such as Sir Tom Jones, Mariah Carey and Enrique Iglesias we needed an equally compelling line-up of support acts to celebrate our 15th anniversary. We are looking forward to welcoming The Rad Trads, Raul Midón and Nathan Sykes to the Emirates Airlines Dubai Jazz Festival 2017. Our goal is to provide memorable and unique experiences for music fans all over the world and our full Festival line-up certainly delivers that,” shared Anthony Younes, CEO of Chillout Productions, Founders and Organisers of the Dubai Jazz Festival.
The line-up for supporting acts is as follows:
February Wednesday 22 – The Rad Trads
February Thursday 23 - Raul Midón
February Friday 24 – Nathan Sykes
The timings for all supporting acts will be from 8:30pm-9:30pm
The Rad Trads
New York City-based blues musicians, The Rad Trads have rapidly gained a reputation as one of the city’s most charismatic live acts and will be gracing the stage on Wednesday 22nd of February and supporting headline act Sir Tom Jones.
Featuring four captivating lead musicians – Alden Harris-McCoy (vocals and guitar), Johnny Fatum (vocals and percussion), Michael Fatum (trumpet), Michael “Big Red” Harlen (vocals and bass), Patrick Sargent (vocals and saxophone) and “Tall” Sam Crittenden (trombone) – The Rad Trads’ success story is an interesting one of four close friends who studied at NYU and began playing for drinks at their favourite Brooklyn bars. Their music also features powerful horns and a driving rhythm section. They cite influences ranging from The E Street band and Mad Dogs and Englishmen to the Beatles and Taj Mahal as having shaped their music.
Having been dubbed “a one-man band who turns a guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus,” by The New York Times, Raul Midón is no stranger to fame. The singer-songwriter and guitarist who has earned acclaim as one of music’s most distinctive voices, is set to charm audiences by lending his musical chops and being the supporting act to Mariah Carey who will be performing on Thursday 23rd of February. Raul Midón has collaborated with heroes such as Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder, and has also contributed to recordings by Jason Mraz, Queen Latifah and Snoop Dogg.
Blind from birth, the New Mexico native has released seven albums since 1999 including the hit studio productions, State of Mind, A World Within a World and Synthesis. His most recent release is the captivating CD/DVD Invisible Chains – Live from NYC. Seasoned listeners will be able to pick out the influences of Donny Hathaway and Richie Havens as well as Sting and Paul Simon.
Former band member of The Wanted, Nathan Sykes will be setting the stage on fire by performing as the supporting act to Enrique Iglesias on Friday 24th of February. Although he became a household name as a member of the multi-platinum-selling band, he is well on the way to having established himself as a solo artist. Having released two of his own tracks in 2015, Nathan has already topped the US Billboard Dance chart with his debut single Kiss Me Quick. He then embarked on a sell out headline UK tour and became a Celebrity Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust. He performed his first live US solo performance on Good Morning America and headlined his show at the Gramercy theatre in New York City, which sold out in under ten minutes.
With previous artists including the likes of Santana, Sting, John Legend, The Script, Deep Purple, Jason Mraz, Jamie Cullum, James Morrison, James Blunt, Christina Perri and more, The Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival has been one of Dubai’s staples for outstanding performances. It is also the most recognised music event in the UAE and the region receiving more than 20 awards and nominations since its launch in 2003.
The annual musical extravaganza continues to be one of the most anticipated events in Dubai’s calendar and promises to elevate audience experiences on its 2017 edition with an exciting line-up of entertainment and offerings.

Brands are relying more and more on social influencers to get their name out. While magazines, radio and other traditional PR outlets are still necessary to help build brand authority and credibility, social media is now mandatory to reach the masses.
Traditional publishing houses are also adapting to the needs of the rapidly changing digital media landscape. ITP has now set up ITP Live, a segment of ITP solely dedicated to social influencers. This is in a way institutionalising the power of social media influencers despite all the frustrations of journalists and PR practitioners. Can this lead to the regularisation of influencer industry rates? More proven case studies are showing that they are indeed affecting the purchasing decisions of consumers. We can now see agencies aligning with big influencers to help get the word out.
@liveentertainmentksa activated a huge influencer campaign to reach the Saudi market. This was the first live event of its kind to enter Riyadh and Jeddah. Social media influencers such as @saudigamer and @kh_abulaban helped the show penetrate to the KSA audience, resulting in a two-week SOLD OUT concert series!
With the rising surge of social media influencers such as @guyindubai and @falmomen, we utilise this medium to serve our clients' needs, but the challenge of finding better and more authoritative touch points in the social media sphere still remains.
What is the future of PR and digital marketing? We know that print is dying and the reliance on influencers is growing. We strive to ensure that brands are aligned with the right influencers who can promote an authentic message.

Day by day, Dubai continues to cement its stature on the global fashion scene, whether through the success of our local designers amongst the Hollywood stars or the launch of our own official Fashion Week marked on the international calendars of industry insiders.
This growth is never more evident than when reflected in the gravitas of the Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed list; celebrating the style and achievements of 45 regional fashionistas for whom beautiful clothes are as important as strength of spirit and ambition.
Last week, Katch International were lucky enough to join the veritable list of whos who in celebrating this iconic publication at an exclusive event held in the St Regis Dubai, Al Habtoor City and catered by the fabulous Brasserie Quartier. Hosted by the team at Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and MatchesFashion.com, the evening was designed to exude the same level of style as those of the ladies it honoured, a feat made possible in part by the partnership with Payal New York. Katch friend and client, Payal Mehta, founded Payal New York in 2009 with the deep held belief that is was essential to design jewellery that would speak to a woman’s character and reflect her spirit while remaining easy, as she puts it ‘jewellery is meant to be worn, not hidden in a safe’.
This sentiment was echoed by many of the Best Dressed Women and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia team who were selected to wear pieces from the Payal New York collection; allowing a glimpse into the creativity of Payal’s work and enabling us to see how the pieces fall and move as the wearer walks. On a night with such glamour, it was hard to tell which sparkled more, the stars overhead, the stunning roof lights of garden at the St Regis, or the necks and ears of the guest adorned with Payal New York diamonds. Thank you to Harper’s Bazaar and all the attendees for an overall fabulous evening.
